Amazing Mondays

Amazing Mondays

One of the top fears of being successful is the fear and disorientation that comes from   “leading the pack.” Fears of making a mistake or if you’re leading others, fear of leading them the wrong direction can easily be strong enough to cause successful people to sabotage. So much of what we do as  leaders is done in the subconscious mind. Think about something you are really good at… I remember when I was water-sking and practicing the slalom coarse a lot. Nothing would make me mess up faster then to start looking at the buoys or thinking about my body position! I had practiced enough to make those activities subconscious and when I tried to make them conscious it didn’t work. Professional musicians, athletes and top business leaders all experience this.  Leaders get feelings about directions a company should take and a vision about a successful coarse of action. The brain has processed that vision before the conscious mind knows about it so instead of a methodical justification it is more a 6th sense or a spontaneous feeling that “this will work.” Learning to trust this feeling is the key to relieving the fear of “being in front.”

The truth is, it is much more comfortable to be in a group, to follow a leader then to take the position at the front. Unfortunately, staying in our comfort zone never led to the success and huge impact that so many of us get excited about creating. So where do you start? The first step is to begin trusting your own guidance. Learn to get quiet and listen to your inner voice and gut feeling. Practice daily. Watch the results. Little by little you will learn to trust your vision and as you do that, your comfort level with success will grow.  Then, and only then, will you be ready to embrace the level of success you long for.

Have an amazing Monday!
